Chris Gunter insists Wales boss Chris Coleman is the right man to take the team forward

Coleman took charge of Wales in January 2012, succeeding the late Gary Speed

Tuesday, November 14, 2017

Wales defender Chris Gunter has said manager Chris Coleman needs to continue as Wales manager.

Coleman, whose contract runs out at the end of the month, has admitted he has no idea about his future.

Despite guiding Wales to a wonderful semi-final in Euro 2016, the 47-year-old is reportedly under pressure after failing to secure a spot at the 2018 World Cup.

The former Fulham boss was linked to the Leicester City job before they hired Claude Puel, while it has been suggested Everton are curently monitoring Coleman's situation.

Speaking after their 1-1 draw in their friendly at home to Panama, Gunter was adamant Wales should be pulling out all the stops to secure their manager's future.

Gunter said: “He needs to stay. It has to happen so hopefully the powers that be can sort it out quickly and helps us to move forward as a squad and he has to be the one to do that with us.

“I think the fans made their feelings known after the game. Everybody wants it to happen and I think it affects everyone to do with Welsh football."
